Proud Mommy!

I have not blogged in forever. Life has been busy and hectic. I had to blog about this though. Miss Thang has come a LONG LONG LONG way since last year on her writing. This is her most recent story.

The assignment was to take a popular story, such as an Aesop's fable,a Grimm's fairytale,a biblical story, etc.,  and rewrite it as if it happened in medieval times but stay true to the conflict of the original story.  She chose to re-write the story of Jonah and the Whale. The other part of the assignment was to see how many of their 52 vocabulary words they could work into the story correctly. She managed 43 vocab words.

Sir Barney and the Beastly Dragon

Once there was a King of Kings named Allister who was extolled and powerful. He had many kings under him to help implement the laws of the land. Sadly, over time the king of Barcelona grew indolent and stopped enforcing King Allister’s laws. This led the people of his city to plummet into a melancholy mood. They then began to desecrate the king’s temples. The buildings became dilapidated and the people were perturbed with one another. It was all very tragic.

When King Allister learned what was going on in Barcelona he was aghast. At first he was stymied and bewildered about what to do. After much thought though, he decided to send his most proficient, agile, foremost, renowned knight, who could toil like no other, Sir Barney to reform Barcelona. As Sir Barney set out on his journey he began to anguish over what he was asked to do. Then he decided this is not going to happen. I’m far too fatigued to rebuke and scorn those insolent people. In fact, I am going to Paris instead because it is the most behaved place. So Sir Barney didn’t wait another second, he hastily started his journey from Rome to Paris.

He was making great time until he got to the Alps, were he had to go over Mont Blanc. It was cold but very serene, when suddenly it started to rain. So Sir Barney looked all over Mont Blanc for some type of cover. Just as he found a cave, he spotted a tornado. As the tornado pursued him he hastily and with a tenacious attitude took cover. Once inside he wanted to see how far the cave went back but the farther he went the darker it got until he hit something slick and with scales. It stunned him yet he was intrigued to analyze it. It was then he remembered he had a match in his pocket. He lit it, and saw a massive blood red fire breathing dragon named Silas. When he looked up and saw he was looking into the mouth of the dragon he wanted to flee but it was too late, he was all ready in the belly of the beast. The dragon had capriciously eaten him. Despite death seeming imminent Sir Barney just sat there eating fetid meat from weird creatures the dragon had swallowed earlier in the day. With a full belly, Sir Barney realized it was ludicrous to just give up. Then he thought, if only I had a second chance I would do as the King of Kings, King Allister had asked of me. Just then Silas the dragon began to choke on the bone of a rather large creature. As he was spitting it out, along came Sir Barney. He was stunned but relished the freedom and said, “I have been given a second chance and shall go to Barcelona right now!” When he arrived he told the people the message from King Allister but they were smug and didn’t care one bit about what he had to say about their repugnant behavior. Gravely, Sir Barney disclosed to the people about almost being shredded to bits and being eaten by a dragon.
The people stared at him and then asked, “Really? You were eaten by a dragon and you made it out alive just so you could come tell us about our reprehensible behavior?”

“Yeah.” He replied.

“Why should we believe you?” asked the people.

Then a bone from the dragon fell out of his pocket. The people realized he was credible and said, “You bestowed the truth among us so I guess we will obey your laws.” The contrite people of Barcelona once again obeyed the laws given by the King of Kings.

The End!!!

My goodness but she is gifted!
Challenge her often, mommy. She needs to exercise her creativity with a pencil and paper and one thoughtful focus to bring to life on the page.

I love what comes out of a child's imagination.
